We cannot honestly tell you that we’ve ever been stranded in the backcountry without a source of fire, but that doesn’t mean it’s not something you should prepare for. What if you need to start a fire and your Zippo is out of fluid, your matches are wet or you lost your firesteel? As long as you have a pair of Flint Laces and something to create a spark you’re good for at least four fires. Each pair of laces is made of Type III 7 strand 550 paracord and has a one inch, rubber coated Ferro rod for the lace tips. If you get into trouble, strip the rubber, pull the Ferro rod, make some sparks and start the fire. They’re available in black or brown with lengths ranging from 36″ to 108″. Just don’t forget to seal the ends of the paracord laces with the fire you started so they don’t fray.
