Dewar’s whisky gets a bad rap as the whisky available at every wedding that no one wants to drink. While the traditional Dewar’s 8-year-old Scotch whisky isn’t one we’re reaching for on a regular basis, the brand does have quite a few interesting finished and flavored whiskies. One of their upcoming releases has us particularly intrigued because it takes the traditional Dewar’s offering and finishes it for “an unspecified amount of time” in Mezcal casks from Ilegal Mezcal. If you pay any amount of attention to the spirits or cocktail scene, you know that Mezcal is the thing that everyone is talking about, so it’s no surprise that a brand this big is throwing their hat into the Mezcal-finished arena. Stephanie Macleod, Dewar’s Master Blender, had this to say: “Dewar’s Ilegal Smooth’s unique flavor profile features subtle notes of caramel, sliced green pepper and a wisp of smoke – making it an ideal pairing for your next dinner party, or as a spirit to enjoy neat, on the rocks or in highball recipes.” Dewar’s Ilegal Smooth Mezcal-Finished Whisky will be available this April with a suggested retail price of $22.
