We’re all for fancy salts like Hawaiian Red Alaea salt, South African flake, and Pink Himalayan salt, but how much difference does it really make when you’re using it as a simple seasoning? It’s really all about the presentation, and there’s where Croatian-based Boir comes in. An interdisciplinary duo of product designer and graphic designer turned chef, Boir has created a unique salt experience with their project SAL⊥. The idea behind Salt is that, with a few simple yet refined pieces and some time, you can grow and harvest your own salt from the comfort of your home. Here’s how it works–you pour the bottle of Nin 28 Bé° (concentrated Adriatic sea water) into the ceramic vessel, expose it to sunlight until the salt crystals appear, and then harvest your salt with the hand-polished, t-shaped Inox steel tool. From the oil-finished oak case to the ceramic vessel inside, each piece is created by Croatian artisans and hand-finished with care to make each set unique.
