Doing It Yourself isn’t always the easiest or cheapest option, but odds are you won’t find anything more satisfying than finishing a DIY project with your own two hands. Each week, we’re going to showcase one cool DIY project tutorial from around the web.

Spend five minutes in any of our homes or offices, and you’re bound to realize we have a thing for gas pipe furniture. As much as we love the material, there are only so many different fittings available, and it’s not exactly cheap. Most importantly, you don’t get to use a blowtorch to build it. If you’re looking for a smaller scale shelving unit, check out the one Matt from Wood & Faulk put together for a Hi-Fi setup out of copper and wood. It’s perfect if you have your own Hi-Fi setup in need of a permanent home, but it could also work as an entryway table for keys/mail, a nightstand or anything else you need a cool shelf for. Did we mention it gives you a reason to buy a blowtorch if you don’t already own one?

Laguiole-Oyster-Knife-IF2

While you can go all MacGyver and shuck oysters with a screwdriver or other household tool, we highly recommend you invest in a good oyster knife. Why? Well, for starters, it’s safer. The best oyster doesn’t taste so hot when you’ve got something sharp stuck in your palm. Secondly, it makes the process easier and a bit more refined. Laguiole is an iconic name in knife making and the French brand has you covered when it comes to shucking thanks to the Laguiole Oyster Knife. Made of 420 stainless steel and complete with a wood handle, the Oyster Knife measures 6 ¼” and makes easy work of even the toughest shell. You just need to supply the cocktail sauce.
