Paul Newman’s Daytona Is Up For Auction

If you have a ton of spare cash and are free on October 26, you can score some of the most legendary watches in existence. “Winning Icons” is an auction that will include some of the most iconic collectors watches of the last 100 years. The gem of the collection has to be Paul Newman’s Daytona, which is, probably, the most important Rolex ever created. Paul Newman’s Cosmograph Daytona was given to him by his wife, Joanne Woodward, while he was filming the 1969 film Winning. The case back has an engraving that reads “Drive Carefully,” as Woodward was nervous about Newman’s racing for the film. A 6239 fitted with an exotic dial, the watch was the first to feature a tachymeter on the bezel. It’s the watch that launched the Paul Newman-style Daytona and now it can be yours… if you’ve got deep pockets.
