Web’s Best: Whiskey Drinks

Unlike The Most Interesting Man in the World, we almost always drink beer. When we don’t, however, our go to liquor is whiskey. What can we say, bourbon is neat (little whiskey humor). While we usually just pour a few fingers and relax, sometimes we like to get a tad more creative. Here are The Web’s Best Whiskey Drinks:

Hot Blooded

Besides sounding like the most badass fruit, blood oranges are freakin’ delicious! Here they get paired up with a bit of heat (an underappreciated drink addition) to give your concoction a ton of flavor. (Recipe)

PDT’s Bacon Old Fashioned

If PDT isn’t a cab ride away from where you live, we highly recommend making their Bacon Old Fashioned in the comfort of your own home. Perhaps the best part of this recipe is that you only need the bacon fat, which means you’ll have all this delicious bacon just sitting around. (Recipe)

Double Chocolate Bourbon Egg Cream

If we’d been around for the Brooklyn egg cream craze, we’d have added a little topping from our flask at the corner pop shop as well. This might not be the option for a night of heavy drinking, but kicking back at home and getting a little chocolaty buzz going doesn’t sound half bad. (Recipe)

Penicillin

Just like the name suggests, this drink is good for what ails you (if what ails you is being stone-cold sober). With lemon, ginger and honey, the Penicillin is like an old-school prescription from your doc. Drink two and call out of work in the morning (only if you’re a real lightweight). (Recipe)

Smoke Signals

Want to impress some guests? Serve ‘em this drink which features smoked ice. Plus the rawness of the carved ice chunks just adds to this glass of manliness. (Recipe)

The Fourth Down Whiskey Cocktail

Who cares if it isn’t a Sunday in November, The Fourth Down Whiskey Cocktail goes down real nice sans football too. If you are knocking a couple back while watching a game, what could be more American than having a drink with some steak seasoning in it? (Even if it is from Montreal.)  (Recipe)

Greenwich Sour

The Greenwich Sour (which was concocted at Employees Only in New York City) is easily the most beautiful thing that’s ever resulted from pouring some Wild Turkey. Plus, any drink involving egg white will make you sound damn impressive to guests. (Recipe)

Milk Punch

This drink is as good in a glass as it is atop some Corn Pops. Okay, while we wouldn’t put this in our morning bowl of cereal, we would gladly pour ourselves a few of these adult slushies when we want to get our drank on. (Recipe)

Cardamom-Vanilla Bourbon with Citrus

This little number will smell so good you’ll want to ditch that Man Candle and just leave a mason jar of it open in your living room (up high so Fido doesn’t get hammered). It’s also ridiculously easy to make and a nice change of pace from sipping some bourbon straight. (Recipe)

Bacon, Bourbon, and Hazelnut Hot Chocolate

For the cold nights when a cup of hot chocolate by itself won’t keep you warm, there’s this bacon-filled beverage that supplies an extra jolt of warmth with some bourbon and Frangelico. It tastes like a spoonful of Nutella with a strip of bacon and bit of whiskey, aka our breakfast. (Recipe)

These all look delicious. One of our favorites is actually a wine and whiskey combo, if you can believe it. Check it out: http://www.drinkinginamerica.com/spodelicious/

The “Penicillin” is actually called a Hot Toddy and is an old Scottish drink. There are loads of variations that involve lemon, honey and then other spices like cinnamon, cloves, ginger etc. It is usually served hot. Which neatly brings me on to my next point. A number of these require ice. Never, under any circumstances put ice in whisky. It masks the flavour. If you’re drinking whisky to look cool but don’t acutally like it then whatever but if you claim to like whisky you should never put ice in.

gungho just killed whiskey on the rocks.

I’m with gungho. Ice ruins whiskey. It ruins whisky too. A nice glass of manliness sounds nice, but I’ll probably stick with my neat bourbon…
