Josh Keyes is an internationally-recognized, Portland-based artist with a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the Yale University School of Art who paints in a style that is best described as traditional graffiti in unconventional places. His acrylic on birch paintings are part of different private collections and feature the kind of tagging you’d expect to find on the side of a train car rolling through a podunk part of the Midwest on top of objects you’d never expect to be covered in graffiti. We’re not talking skyscrapers or cop cars, we’re talking space shuttles and satellites and whale tails and icebergs. Each of the pieces perfectly blends the disparate genres to create something that’s surreal but plausible.
