To all you people who think that these bicycles are not made for ride on. You are all completly wrong. And you are wrong because I have 4 bicycles like this. The biggest one which I have it´s a Schinn stingray black spoiler, chopper bike. The bicycle is almost two meters long and looks complitley like a american chopper because it´s made in USA. But that doesnt mean that it´s not made to ride. It´s made to ride and it´a actuyally more fun to ride than a normal bicycle. I use them only during summer and I cycle alot during summer and I am fine. The other cool thing it´s the people who look at you when you cycle by. The attention is big.
There a few bicycles which are posted here which are fust made for shows but most of them can be ridden for more than maybe 100 yards without destroing your knees. I know that because I have 4 of them which are pimped and are very fun to ride.
And to you Bicycle Bill. You are wrong. It doesn´t have to be practical. I know that people in general think that a normal bicycle is the best way to ride but that´s because we judge things from the outside whiout thinking other it so when we se a bicycle like this we think that´s its inpossible to ride but we are wrong.
This is a hobby and makes it intresting because there are so many parts which you can by and pimp you bike like you want. Some of these parts can also be used on normal bikes. These bicycles are made in USA and even if the bikes are very different from normal bicycles, they are still very fun to ride and can be ridden.

Can any of these bikes be ridden for more than maybe 100 yards before the rider destroys his knees or has a heart attack from trying to propel all that extra weight?

They may be bicycles by the strictest definition of the word, but they are more along the lines of the jet-powered truck that makes the rounds of air shows coast-to-coast. Interesting, but not at all practical.

Stumbled across this site via Digg today, and by coincidence visited the owner/builder of the couchbike earlier today. It's great fun, and I have to mention that you left out a couple of his other original creations, namely:

Family truckster:

Rhodes car:
